Lance Armstrong to Lose Tour de France Titles After Giving Up Fight Against Doping Charges.

It appears Lance Armstrong’s spectacular cycling career was all a sham. In one of the most startling developments in U.S. sports history, Armstrong decided Thursday he will no longer contest charges by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency that he used performance-enhancing drugs going back as far as the late 1990’s when he won the first of his seven  consecutive Tour de France titles. Now, Armstrong stand to lose all those crowns, according to USADA chief executive Travis Tygart, and will be banned from professional cycling for life even though the 40-year-old retired from the sport for the second time in early 2011. As recently as last month, Armstrong filed a lawsuit against the agency to keep it from taking action against him, claiming he was denied due process. Armstrong admitted no guilt in a statement released Thursday evening, saying, “There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, 'Enough is enough.' For me, that time is now.” He went on to say, “If I thought for one moment that by participating in USADA's process, I could confront these allegations in a fair setting and -- once and for all -- put these charges to rest, I would jump at the chance." Then in a bitter attack on the USADA chief executive, Armstrong charged, “Regardless of what Travis Tygart says, there is zero physical evidence to support his outlandish and heinous claims.” Tygart did not respond to Armstrong's diatribe but issued a statement that “It is a sad day for all of us who love sport and our athletic heroes. This is a heartbreaking example of how the win-at-all-costs culture of sport, if left unchecked, will overtake fair, safe and honest competition, but for clean athletes, it is a reassuring reminder that there is hope for future generations to compete on a level playing field without the use of performance-enhancing drugs.” Back in May 2010, American cyclist Floyd Landis, another Tour de France winner stripped of his title, acknowledged he used banned substances and claimed Armstrong did the same.

Jason Aldean and His Road Crew Enjoy a Nice Game of Whiffle Ball!

A lot of today's country stars workout like mad men on the road. TIM MCGRAW and KENNY CHESNEY come to mind. But not everyone wants sculpted pecs and washboard abs. Take JASON ALDEAN, for example. When it comes to working out, he prefers the team sport thing. He says, quote, "I go play whiffle ball . . . on the lawn of the venue . . . every day. "Me and my band play, and then sometimes we'll play against LUKE [BRYAN] and his band. I played baseball my whole life, so I'm pretty good."
Jason and his crew used to get down with some serious hoops . . . but then people started rolling ankles and coming up lame before the show . . . so that had to stop. He says, quote, "We were playing basketball, but everybody started getting hurt. So we figured we'd try something where that was a little less likely." There's one more reason it sounds like fun to be on the road with Jason and his crew. They eat real food. He explains, quote, "We eat chicken and potato chips and drink beer."

Hey Jason! How about a quick game of Whiffle Ball at Bethel Woods this Sunday? Are you guys game?

We Trail China By Three . . . and 64% of Countries Still Haven't Medaled!

The seven medals we picked up yesterday weren't enough to catch the Chinese. While we won seven, they earned another nine to solidify a three medal lead. The British and the Russians have been jockeying for third place. As of last night, they were tied with a total of 48 medals, but the Brits had a dozen more gold to put them back in third again. Here's the overall medal count:

#1.)  China with 73 medals - 34 Gold, 21 Silver, and 18 Bronze.

#2.)  United States with 70 medals - 30 Gold, 19 Silver, and 21 Bronze.

#3.)  Great Britain with 48 medals - 22 Gold, 13 Silver, and 13 Bronze.

#4.)  Russia with 48 medals - 10 Gold, 18 Silver, and 20 Bronze.

#5.)  Japan with 29 medals - 2 Gold, 13 Silver, and 14 Bronze.

Kenny Chesney Says It's a Blast Bringing Sports Stars on Stage to Sing.

We know KENNY CHESNEY loves hanging with sports stars. And the feeling is mutual. We've seen NFL teams let him suit up and make a fool out of himself at practice. Kenny returns the favor by pulling players on stage to sing off key. Obviously, it's all a goof . . . and a thrill for both sides. Kenny explains, quote, "It's great to see the crowd roar for them when they come on stage, which is a completely different setting than being at bat. "(But) I will say this: KEVIN MILLAR is the worst singer I've ever been on stage with. I met him when I was taking batting practice for the Red Sox, which remains one of my biggest thrills. "Kevin is a big kid at heart and a great guy who I'm still close with today, but he came up on stage when we were playing in Toronto and sang his favorite [song of mine], 'Old Blue Chair'. "It was just a terrible version!  But he really had a blast and it was all in good fun."

Will Rhymes of the Tampa Bay Rays Passed Out After Being Hit on the Arm by a Pitch.

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman WILL RHYMES passed out last night after being hit by a pitch thrown by Boston's FRANKLIN MORALES. And here's the strange thing: Rhymes was hit on the ARM. Rhymes seemed okay at first. He even went to first base. But then he motioned to the dugout that he needed to be replaced and fell into the arms of the first base coach. The latest is that Will passed out as a result of an adrenaline rush, which is obviously good news. Here's the video...

Utah Jazz Birthday Cake FAIL!

In case you missed it, some fans at a Utah Jazz game got a happy birthday surprise Tuesday night: And by that, I mean a sheet cake with candles was accidentally DROPPED on them from the upper deck. The team's bear mascot was standing in the front row of the second level, presenting the cake to a long-time season ticket holder. Then he tilted it so a camera could get a shot, and the cake slid off the plate and fell about 30 feet. Luckily, the people it landed on had a REALLY good sense of humor about it. They even started smearing it on each other's faces. This is priceless!!!

An NFL Legend is Reunited With His Championship Ring . . . That was Stolen Over 30 Years Ago!

ART DONOVAN is an NFL hall-of-famer who played defensive tackle for the Baltimore Colts when they won back-to-back NFL World Championships. That was the era before the Super Bowl in 1958 and 1959. That 1958 game is sometimes called the "Greatest Game Ever Played". The Colts beat the New York Giants in sudden death, 23-to-17, at Yankee Stadium. Back in 1977, Donovan was on a trip to Japan and his championship ring from that 1958 game was STOLEN. In the past 34 years, Donovan basically conceded that the ring was gone for good. Then, earlier this month, police in Baltimore got a tip that Donovan's ring had surfaced. It was clearly Donovan's because it had his name and his jersey number, 70, engraved on it. It was being sold on Craigslist for $20,000. The police posed as buyers. As soon as they had the ring in hand, they told the seller it was stolen. He told them he'd purchased it from a memorabilia dealer several years ago and had no idea it was stolen and agreed to give it back to Donovan. No criminal charges will be filed. So now, at age 86, Art Donovan was reunited with his first championship ring.

Super Sunday Turns Into Super Win For Packers!

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Aaron Rodgers at long last casts his own shadow.
All it took was a Super Bowl victory for the Green Bay Packers. Capping one of the greatest postseasons for any quarterback, Rodgers led the Pack to their first NFL championship in 14 years Sunday, 31-25 over the Pittsburgh Steelers. They reclaimed the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named for their legendary coach who won the first two Super Bowls and is making his own star turn in New York in the play named after him.
