Jason Aldean Believes The Best Years Of Our Lives Happen in High School.

If you've caught JASON ALDEAN on tour this summer then you probably saw him perform his new song, "Tattoos On This Town". It's about the mark you leave on your hometown and the lasting impression that town leaves on you. According to Jason, most of that influence occurs during your high school years. He says, quote, "People don't realize in high school that those are some of the best times that you're ever gonna have. "You don't realize it at the time, and the next phase comes along, and you get married and have kids and transition from teen to adult. But you always look back on those teenage years [and] you talk about them. "When I get around my friends, we talk about, 'Remember when we did this?' "You just don't worry about any consequences when you're a teenager, but at some point, you get smart and realize, 'I can't do those things anymore, but it was fun when I did it.'"

There's a new ad from New Era, continuing the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry between ALEC BALDWIN and JOHN KRASINSKI. VERY FUNNY!

Miranda Lambert Talks Some More About How She Knew Blake Shelton Was Married When They First Started Dating.

MIRANDA LAMBERT was on "Dateline" last night talking about, among other things, how she went after BLAKE SHELTON while he was still married.(--Blake was married to Kaynette Williams from 2003 to 2006.) The initial spark happened in 2006 when Blake and Miranda were paired up for a duet on "CMT's 100 Greatest Duets Concert". Miranda told HODA KOTB what was going through her mind. She said, quote, "I didn't know what to do with it. "It was like my first duet with some other country star. And I didn't know if it was just initial butterflies because of that or, I don't know what it was. It was just this draw to each other." And even though Miranda knew Blake was taboo, she couldn't help herself. She said, quote, "I had seen their wedding picture in 'Country Weekly'. I knew better, like this is off-limits . . . "My parents are private investigators, for God's sakes. I've seen this my whole life, affairs. And I'm like, 'If all people didn't know better, I know better than this.'" One more thing about Blake and Miranda. They've been co-producing NEAL MCCOY'S next album. Yes, the Neal McCoy that sang at their wedding.

Jenny Craig spokeswoman CARRIE FISHER unveiled her new figure on the "Today" show yesterday. She's lost 50 pounds, but there's something else about her that seems different besides her weight. It looks like she might have had some work done on her face. During the interview, host ANN CURRY brought up the Princess Leia metal bikini from "Return of the Jedi", and Carrie said, quote, "I want to get into the metal bikini and just walk around the house like an idiot.

An NFL Legend is Reunited With His Championship Ring . . . That was Stolen Over 30 Years Ago!

ART DONOVAN is an NFL hall-of-famer who played defensive tackle for the Baltimore Colts when they won back-to-back NFL World Championships. That was the era before the Super Bowl in 1958 and 1959. That 1958 game is sometimes called the "Greatest Game Ever Played". The Colts beat the New York Giants in sudden death, 23-to-17, at Yankee Stadium. Back in 1977, Donovan was on a trip to Japan and his championship ring from that 1958 game was STOLEN. In the past 34 years, Donovan basically conceded that the ring was gone for good. Then, earlier this month, police in Baltimore got a tip that Donovan's ring had surfaced. It was clearly Donovan's because it had his name and his jersey number, 70, engraved on it. It was being sold on Craigslist for $20,000. The police posed as buyers. As soon as they had the ring in hand, they told the seller it was stolen. He told them he'd purchased it from a memorabilia dealer several years ago and had no idea it was stolen and agreed to give it back to Donovan. No criminal charges will be filed. So now, at age 86, Art Donovan was reunited with his first championship ring.

Vince Gill "Rips" A Guitar Solo On a New Alice Cooper Song

VINCE GILL and rock legend ALICE COOPER are pretty tight. They're golfing buddies and are both devout Christians. They also hang out a lot.
So Alice had no doubt in his mind that Vince could handle a metal-themed guitar solo on his new song "A Runaway Train". Alice said, quote, "I asked him to play something that's kind of (like blues guitarist) Mike Bloomfield. I said, 'Rip it.' (Vince) took out a telecaster and just blasted it. It's such a monster solo. I love it."
"A Runaway Train" will be on Alice Cooper's upcoming album "Welcome 2 My Nightmare", which drops September 13th.

Dierks Bentley Helped A Fan Propose to His Girlfriend.

Artists are constantly getting hit up with hair-brained schemes from fans who want this or that favor. DIERKS BENTLEY actually went for this one. He let some dude propose to his girlfriend on HIS tour bus as Dierks sang "My Last Name". There's a part toward the end of the song where the singer asks his lady to take his last name. When Dierks hit that mark in the song, the guy pulled out the ring.

Dierks actually lets the guy sing too, and he doesn't have that bad of a voice. If you're interested, he goes for the ring at the 3:39 mark of the video.

If You "Friend" Ronnie Dunn, Don't Be Surprised To Hear Back From Him!

Part of my job is to pour through the social media and see what the country artists are saying and doing. And I have to admit, although almost everyone is on Facebook and Twitter, plenty of them aren't paying any attention to their fans. Not RONNIE DUNN. Not only does Ronnie actively manage his own page, he'll even chat with people who "friend" him. He says, quote, "I've been into (Facebook) from day one. I'm a freak about that stuff. I love where it's all headed. "I enjoy the whole process. I enjoy the back and forth. I'll go on a few minutes a night, sitting watching TV at the house or rolling on the bus late at night talking to people back and forth. I love it."

You Can "LIKE" Ronnie Here!

Jack Doesn't Know Jack: Literature...Oh boy...

for my Lit class, I had to read an Edgar Allen Poe story and write a report on it. Easy enough. So, I read the story on my trusty Ipod and thought it was a great idea to begin the report with the opening line of the book So, I wrote “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” I got an F!! Why!?!?!

a. It was one of Poe’s earlier lesser-known pieces and wasn’t accepted for the assignment

b. Maybe I should have used “Cliff notes” and not “Murray’s Guide to great Lit papers” , because the story I read wasn’t written by Edgar Allen Poe , but rather Charles Dickens “A Tale of Two Cities”

c. Because my spelling and punctuation were almost non-existent

Congratulations to Kelley from Otisville for knowing that the correct answer was "B". Thank you all for participating this week! Good luck to all the finalists! One lucky person is now going to win a $100.00 Staples gift card! Stay tuned to see who it is!

Dierks Bentley Turned Down an Offer From "The Celebrity Apprentice"

If you're looking to get behind a country star who puts music first, then send your support over to DIERKS BENTLEY. He TURNED DOWN an offer to be on "The Celebrity Apprentice" because it would get in the way of his real career. Dierks said, "I was actually asked and I considered it for a long time and I was flattered to be asked, but at the end of the day . . . it's writing songs, making records, touring is everything to me. "That's everything to me. That's the dream, and the dream takes up a lot of time. With two kids and a wife, my plate's pretty full."

Way To Go Dierks! The man has his personal priorities straight...we all should be that focused! :)

New Photo Trend! Horse-Manning...It's actually kind of funny!

The photo is an optical illusion that takes two people to pull off: One person poses so you can't see their head. Either by hiding it behind something, or leaning WAY back and the other person poses so you can ONLY see their head. The result makes it look like one person's been beheaded with the head sitting next to them. And a lot of times, the person who's been beheaded has their arm touching the other person's head, so it looks like they're holding their severed head.

This is actually a photo trend that started about 100 years ago! If you want to send me your Horse-Manning pictures, I'll post the really cool ones on this blog! Send your pics to

Lets have some fun!

Jack Doesn't Know Jack: History

History..specifically Auto history, because really is there any other kind of history??? I saw an on-line ad for a ’57 Chevy, talked to the guy who said it needed abit of work, I made an appointment to see it. With check in hand, I rush over to see it. But when I got trhere, the check went right back into my pocket. I knew right away it WAS NOT a '57 Chevy. What was wrong with it?

a. It had huge tail fins
b. It had 3 speed shift on the column, otherwise known as 3 on a tree
c. It had 4 headlights

The correct answer is "C". The 1957 Chevy had only 2 headlights. Congratulations to Hope in Pleasant Valley for knowing the correct answer! There's just one more round of Jack Doesn't Know Jack tomorrow at 6:50. Then be sure to listen at 7:50 to see who won the Grand Prize, a $100 gift card to Staples!

Country Music is Hot!!! All Three Major Networks Are Battling For Rights to Air the "CMA Music Awards"!

Next time someone gives you a hard time about your love of country music, tell them to suck on this. All three major TV networks are negotiating their little Brooks Brothers suits off to win the rights to air the "CMA Music Awards"! The reasons are, as always, all about the numbers. The CMAs average around 17-million viewers. That's similar to the Golden Globes . . . but HIGHER than the "American Music Awards".
The CMAs also do well with the younger viewers, and that's the real prize. According to NewYorkMagazine.com, ABC, which has aired the show for the past five years, was all set to renew their commitment, but then CBS, who had the show for 34 years before that, decided they wanted it back. THEN both of them were blindsided when NBC came out of nowhere with an open checkbook. CMA officials are supposedly weighing all the offers and will sign a long-term deal, with someone, later this month. This year's CMAs are scheduled to air November 9th on ABC. I can't imagine the results of this deal will change that. BUT...I'll keep an eye on this one anyway! Lets see what goes down...

Jack Doesn't Know Jack: Chemistry and The Clogged Drain!

I Had a clogged drain...I remembered back to my high school chemistry class to use 2 common household ingredients to create a drain opener instead of spending money on the name brands. Well, as I was getting ready to pour my volatile concoction down the drain, my wife came in yelling….”STOP!!! Please don’t blow up the house”

Here’s my choices, what should I have used?
a. Bleach & peroxide
b. Lemon juice and table salt
c. Vinegar & baking soda

The correct answer is "C" Vinegar & Baking Soda! Congratulations to Sally in Rhinebeck for knowing the correct answer! We'll play again tomorrow at 6:50!

Jack Doesn't know Jack: The Math Problem.

Okay, as most of you might know, I had a flood in my kitchen and had to order new flooring for my 215 Sq. Ft. kitchen. Basically, when the boxes of flooring kept coming in, I realized that I had way too much flooring. What did I do? Did I mistakenly...

A - Order the flooring in square feet?
B - Order the flooring in square inches?
C - Order the flooring in square yards?

The correct answer is...I ordered it in "C" Square Yards. Oops!
Congratulations to Lisa from Kingston for knowing the answer! Oh well, anybody need flooring? LOL! Tune in tomorrow at 6:50 for another edition of Jack Doesn't Know Jack: Back To School!

Jack Doesn't Know Jack: Back To School Edition! Subject: Foreign Language

While station in Germany in the Army, I was starving one day and asked a local..."Wo ist der Bahnhoff?" Now, I got a weird look from the guy because I was rubbing my belly as I asked this question. What did I actually ask him?

A - Where is the cold beer?
B- Where is the mens room?
C- Where is the train station?

The correct answer is "C". No wonder he looked at me strange. He must have thought "This guy is here to protect us? From what? He likes to eat trains!" :) Congratulations to Marie in Fishkill for knowing the correct answer! There's more to come tomorrow at 6:50!

Kenny Chesney Takes His Crew On Vacation After Each Tour . . . *And* They Qualify to Win Buckets of His Money!

Last week we learned that TAYLOR SWIFT takes every single employee of her tour on an exotic vacation when the trek wraps. But she's got nothing on KENNY CHESNEY. He does that AND he gives them a chance to win over a quarter of a million dollars. Kenny tells the "New York Times", quote, "At the end of each year, I take the band, crew, the merchandise people, catering people, my management team, their wives, girlfriends, whatever, down to the Virgin Islands for a week to thank them. "I pay for everything, and we've done it every year since 2002." And here's the part about the money. He continues, quote, "I want all the people out there who work with me to feel as appreciated as possible, especially the people who are the first to get up in the morning and the last to go to bed, my crew guys. "Sometimes we do a 'merch lottery'. We put everybody's name in a huge sombrero and whoever's name I pull out gets all of the money from merchandise sales for that night." Kenny was asked how much money could that be. He answered, quote, "Probably the biggest check was three hundred grand. But do you know what those guys did? "This is why I think this kind of thing works: They waited until the end of the year and I wrote one big check to the crew and they divided it up 13 ways. Doing things like that just motivates people."

Miranda Lambert "Really Wanted" Josh Kelley to Sing Backup On Her Song "Baggage Claim"

MIRANDA LAMBERT recently said that her new single, "Baggage Claim", is the "grooviest song" she's ever recorded. Must be one of the reasons she asked JOSH KELLEY and his silky smooth voice to sing backup on it. Josh tells TasteOfCountry.com, quote, "Miranda said that she really wanted my voice on there, like a JOE COCKER kind of thing. She knows my voice is very soulful. I come from a soul and blues background. "They said, 'Hey man, we really love your voice, so just do your thing, and we'll see what happens.'" And what happened is that the song debuted at #33, which is the highest chart single debut of Miranda's career. Nice choice, Miranda. Again!

Eric Church Doesn't Think Country Music Should Sound Like It Did in 1974.

I hate it when people dismiss today's country music as "not being what it used to be". That's crazy. Nothing is what it used to be. So I'm giving huge props to ERIC CHURCH for addressing that very issue and hitting the nail on the head. It happened during an interview with AOL.com. They were talking about Eric's song "Country Music Jesus" which is on his new album "Chief". He was asked if the song's underlying message is about "saving" country music. Eric answered, quote, "That song is tongue-in-cheek. There was a particular critic who was lumping me in with a new generation, a new breed, and they didn't like where the music was heading.
"(The critic suggested) we need to harken back to JOHNNY CASH, WAYLON JENNINGS to make that kind of music. It bothered me because though I revere Cash and Waylon, I don't think we make the same music they did. "They made different music than HANK WILLIAMS made. Even at a later time, guys like GARTH BROOKS came along and made different music. They changed the genre. It's my job to pick up the flag and take it somewhere it hadn't been. "So, this song was a little bit tongue-in-cheek of my disagreeing with his inference that we had to make music sound like it was 1974. The evolution of music is good. You pay homage to who got you there, and then you take it somewhere else."

A Man is Caught Skipping Out on a $250 Cab Fare . . . Because He Had the Cab Drop Him Off at Home!

You'd THINK even idiot criminals would realize that if you're gonna stiff a cab driver, you do it when he's not dropping you off at your OWN HOUSE. This guy was NOT that smart. Early on Sunday, 22-year-old Nicholas Pinell took a cab from the French Quarter in New Orleans to his home about 55 miles away in Houma, Louisiana. The fare was $250. But rather than pay that, Nicholas jumped out of the cab and ran inside. The cab driver called the police, who came and arrested him for theft. They knew exactly where he lived, after all.

Luke Bryan is "Frightened" That His Sons May Never Experience Farm Life.

LUKE BRYAN grew up on a farm in Georgia working his little tail off. And he doesn't regret one minute of it. In fact, he lives in fear that his children will NEVER experience that kind of kickass farm work. Luke tells the "Tennessean", quote, "When I was a kid, my pawpaw'd come pick me up and we'd go pick peas until you couldn't stay out there in the heat no more and then we'd go to the shellin' plant. It was the quintessential country lifestyle. "I look at my boys and it frightens me to know that they could potentially not ever sit in a pea patch with their pawpaw and do that kind of stuff." Luke has two sons, Bo is three years old and Tate turns one on Thursday. When they hit 8 or 9 years old, they'll start spending summers on a farm Luke owns in Georgia. He says, quote, "I gotta have a place to take 'em and camp. "It frightens me to not have that imagery in their brains. I had the option to start there and arrive here. I understand the subway system in New York City because I go there about three times a year for stuff. "And I know where I'm at when I'm in Los Angeles. But, I know where I'm at in Lee County, too. It scares me that their base will never be that."

Check Out Taylor Swift Ad-Libbing A Song She Called "Chaperone Dad".

A couple of Australian talk show hosts put TAYLOR SWIFT on the spot during a recent interview. They were ripping on the dads at Taylor's concerts who have to chaperone their daughters when they'd clearly rather be anywhere else. And Taylor, always the professional, went with it. She said, quote, "Their daughters have held up the glittery signs for the first half of the show, but then they're like, 'Dad, hold this!' "And then they’ve got glitter all over their khaki pants and plaid shirts. But they're doing the right thing!" What came next could have been a setup . . . I'm not sure, but it was pretty entertaining. The Aussie dudes started playing instruments and Taylor jumped in and improvised a song called "Chaperone Dad".

Blake Shelton Agreed to Sing on Trace Adkins New Song "If I Was a Woman" Without Even Hearing It First.

Last year I mentioned that TRACE ADKINS and TOBY KEITH were planning to record a silly song together titled "If I Were a Woman, I'd Love a Man Like Me". Well, they didn't because Trace went with BLAKE SHELTON instead. The final version of the song is called "If I Was a Woman" and it's on Trace's new album, "Proud To Be Here", which dropped Tuesday. Trace says it was easy talking Blake into it, quote, "I called Blake and said, 'Sing the thing with me.' "He agreed to it before he'd even heard it. And when he did, he said, 'Thank God. I thought it was gonna suck.' I cussed him for a good, solid 90 seconds for thinking that."

Yeah...I can see that happening. -Hammer

Hero of the Day: An 85-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Went Skydiving on His Birthday to Stick it to Hitler . . . and Prove That "the [S.O.B.] Didn't Succeed"!

It's time for our Hero of the Day. Gary Lenzner turned 85 last Sunday, and took the opportunity to celebrate in a pretty badass way. Gary is a Holocaust survivor. In 1945, he managed to escape from the Buchenwald concentration camp while being led back from harvesting fields. He hid in a nearby farmhouse until Americans liberated the camp. And to celebrate his 85th birthday, Gary decided to go skydiving as an (your explative here) to Adolf Hitler. He said, quote, "I'd like to prove the [S.O.B.] didn't succeed." He added, quote, "I had two children, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, and now I'm jumping out of an airplane." Gary now lives in Mission Viejo, California and went to Nichol's Field in San Diego for the birthday jump. He jumped tandem with an instructor from 10,000 feet. The landing was successful, and Hitler can suck it, thanks to our Hero of the Day: Gary Lenzner.

The "Ottawa Citizen" Reporter Denies Trying to Provoke Miranda Lambert

The other day we posted about MIRANDA LAMBERT'S beef with a journalist from Canada's "Ottawa Citizen". Miranda Tweeted that the writer had tried to trap her into talking about gun control, when she preferred to stick to the music. It was actually a one-sided beef because she didn't go public with anything until several days after they talked. Well, the writer, one Patrick Langston, is now offering up his take. As you'd expect, he claims to be "totally surprised" by Miranda's terse Tweets. He described the interview as friendly. However, he did admit asking Miranda about her cover version of the song "Time to Get a Gun". It appears he was suggesting that the original version, which is by some Canadian singer you've never heard about, tells the story of a guy who is actually shocked that he's even thinking about buying a gun. But Langston suggested Miranda intended the song to be a "gun anthem". And then he outright asked her about her views on guns. That's when Miranda realized he was trying to cook up some controversy so she told him she didn’t want to get political.
The actual article is due out this weekend . . . so it'll be interesting to see how it reads. I wouldn't be surprised if the paper cleans it up to make it look like the journalist was polite and nice.

Luke Bryan Found Out That Being a Country Star Is "Just Like Any Job"

Performers are always talking about how much fun they're having. Maybe, but the smart ones know they'd better work their backsides off too. It's something LUKE BRYAN is finding out now. He tells the "The Oklahoman", quote, "You never just get idle. You just always have to be on your game and be mindful of what's going on. It's just like any job: You've gotta give it your all, day in and day out."

On a personal note: I saw Luke Bryan in concert. This man was a ball of energy and a GREAT performer. I think in general, that ALL Country artists "get it". They know times are tough and it's hard to afford concerts now. So they give every show their "all". Thank you to all Country music artists!

Miranda Lambert Has A Beef With A Writer From the "Ottawa Sun"!

Sometime last week MIRANDA LAMBERT did an interview with Canada's "Ottawa Citizen". It was about her upcoming concert, which is going down August 12th, in Ottawa. Simple enough. Or is it? At some point in the interview the writer decided to get all political and call out Miranda's pro gun rights stance. At least that's my take after reading a couple of Tweets Miranda posted last Friday. Here's what she wrote, quote, "Dear Mr. Writer at Ottawa Citizen: next time you interview me, let's keep it about the music and not about your view on my stance on guns . . . "I don't talk politics period. I'm not sure all Canadians would like to be put in your category. Speak for yourself not your country. Thx!" And then she added, quote, "PS I can't wait to see my faithful Ottawa fans!:) 2 weeks."

It's kind of hard to comment until I see the actual interview. I mean, is this just some clown trying to score points with his editors by blindsiding Miranda about an issue she doesn't care to discuss? Or, did the dude merely bring it up and then the more Miranda thought about it, the more ticked-off she got? I HAVE to go with the former. Miranda is way too cool to overreact for no reason.

"Older Ladies" Like to Shake It For Luke Bryan.

When LUKE BRYAN released his song "Country Girl (Shake It For Me)", he fully expected to see fans at his concerts, well, shaking it for him. But he had no idea that a good many of those fans would be, mature ladies, so to speak. Luke says, "It's fun to see your unexpected characters from time to time, the older ladies that surprise you with wanting to shake it a little bit. "The main thing is you see a lot of people out there having a great time and just truly, truly, having a blast and letting their hair down and not worrying about what people are thinking."

Zac Brown Likes to Ride a Harley Around the Parking Lot at his Concerts!

Next time you're milling about the parking lot at a ZAC BROWN BAND concert keep your eyes peeled for some dude on a Harley wearing a helmet. It's probably ZAC BROWN checking out what the real people are up to. Zac says, quote, "I absolutely love being on a motorcycle. In a helmet, nobody knows who I am. I can ride right through the tailgating with a helmet on, and it's just like you're invisible. "I can observe firsthand what's going on at our shows and at these KENNY (CHESNEY) shows and get to see it. I just get out and ride around the tailgating. There's no other way to do it."
